Nicole Sullivan

BookBar owner Nicole Sullivan in her Denver bookstore

Nicole Sullivan's love of all things books and reading led her to open BookBar in Spring 2013. After studying Culinary Arts at the Colorado Art Institute, she knew books, food & wine would make a great business fit.  She is the owner of BookBed (the author bed & breakfast above BookBar), and ReadTribe (coming soon!); co-founder of two non-profit organizations: Tennyson Berkeley Business Association and Local First Colorado; founder of BookGive, the non-profit arm of BookBar. She proudly serves on several Boards of Directors including as President of Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Association, Treasurer of Tennyson Street Local Maintenance District and the American Booksellers Association Advisory Committee. She holds a BA in Anthropology from University of Colorado and lives just a short bike ride from her store with her husband Ryan, 11-year-old son Jack, 9-year-old daughter Stella, and way too many pets.

Abbey Paxton

BookBar buyer Abbey Paxton

Abbey makes a mean raw peach pie and is learning to drive her beautiful Airstream camper. She came to bookselling after being a high school teacher. She's always loved reading and talking to people and her job at BookBar is a great place for her to ultilize her skills in both areas. She first knew she was a book person, when she was a little girl and got whisked away into the fanciful, snow packed world of Narnia. She loves working a bookstore because there is nothing better than the feeling of getting the right book in the right person's hands at the right time. She received an MA in Creative Writing from Regis University. When she is not bookselling, she is paddleboarding, running, or writing. She has never read Harry Potter and is saving them to read to her future children, so don't give her a hard time about it.

Erin Mazza

BookBar Book Manager Erin Mazza

She's known for clever book displays and event ideas as well as scouting out uniquely bookish gift items for the shop. She first realized she was a book person after reading Howl's Moving Castle as a kid which led her down the path of becoming a Harry Potter expert and beginning her career in the book industry in publishing at the University Press of Colorado before becoming a lead bookseller at Boulder Bookstore. Most recently, she can't stop thinking about My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh.

Catherine Olah

BookBar bar manager Catherine Olah

Bar Manager

Catherine is our bar manager, a recovering Deadhead, and a Chef Insitute of America graduate. She likes long walks on the beach, her dog Grommit, and dramatic, immature fights. Every summer solstice, you can find her quitely adding another candle to her Jerry Garcia shrine. Her new favorite band is Clown Vomit.

Sarah Dealy

BookBar shift lead and media manager Sarah Dealy

Shift Lead/Media Manager

Sarah Dealy lives with her tiny dog, Ira Glass. She's been a bookseller for four years and has experienced many literary thrills, such as the time David Sedaris swabbed the inside of her cheek for DNA or the time she cleaned Momo's (of the book Find Momo) pee off a wall. Her favorite season is Halloween. In her spare time she makes podcasts about sadness. In her BookBar time, you can catch her recording conversations with her giant recorder for the BookBar podcast or giving out literary fortune readings (aka book recommendations).

Chris is currently studying for a MA in Counseling at Regis University. In addition to books and alcohol, he enjoys minimal stimulation, solitude, long walks around Sloan's Lake, and early 80s underground music.

Simone Liggins

bookbar booktender simone liggins

Simone Liggins earned her MFA in Writing at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics of Naropa University. The foundation for her love of writing and literature was paved at an early age and blossomed during her teenage years through the kind of tortured freedom that only the ostracism of high school can grant a person. Her literary “ancestors” and various influences include but are not limited to: Sylvia Plath, Kurt Vonnegut, Dorothy Parker, Octavia Butler, Lenore Kandel, George Saunders, Laurell K. Hamilton, The Beatles, Lady Gaga, Jimi Hendrix, Tracy Chapman, and Fiona Apple. Working at BookBar fulfills a lifelong dream of Simone's, and she's grateful for the sincerity of her coworkers and the true diversity of the metropolis.

Rachel Hamalian

bookbar booktender Rachel Hamalian

Rachel is a recent graduate of Colorado State University, where she studied English and Business. After growing up in Colorado, she finally learned how to ski this past winter, and plans on going many more times. When she's not working, she's probably writing poetry, taking a hike, or sitting around eating food. She aspires to be a marketing manager in the publishing industry, to visit Armenia, and to complete a pull-up.

Kelly Delany

bookbar booktender Kelly Delany

Kelly is a pastry chef by day and a writer by night. The most consistent thing in her life has been that spot on the couch between two pillows, under the lamp with a book precariously balanced between all three.

Miranda Einhorn

bookbar booktender Miranda Einhorn

Miranda grew up reading fantasy YA on the Upper West Side of New York City thanks to a wonderful relationship with a bookseller at Bank Street Bookstore. She migrated to Colorado to attend Colorado College in 2014 where she studied psychology and continued to read fantasy as well as mystery, literary fiction, and psychological nonfiction. When she is not reading she can be found skiing, camping, and writing articles for the Colorado Avalanche.

Mavis Driver

Some might call him Jason; some might call him Mr. Armijo. He answers to both. The name Mr. Armijo started two years ago when he started teaching after graduating from Regis University in 2016. He now teaches at Arrupe Jesuit High School, right here in the Berkley neighborhood. He also happily drives Mavis for BookBar's non-profit branch BookGive. Mavis is a '94 ambulance intended to support literacy in our nearby communities. Some of his favorite authors include Cervantes, Chaucer, Milton, Nabokov, Fitzgerald, Morrison, and Zadie Smith. His hobbies are bike riding, hiking, bouldering, reading and of course writing. If you see the bright orange ambulance with Mavis written on the side, wave hi!

Marilyn Robbins

bookbar head of children's programming marilyn robbins

Head of Children's Programming

Marilyn first became a reader by scouring the back of cereal boxes each morning. She fell in love with reading after spending countless hours with Ramona the Pest and her neighborhood friends. But, her greatest love is teaching children how to read and write. After retiring from 32 years of teaching, Marilyn finds herself back on Tennyson close to where her grandparents and great-grandparents had homes.

Kevin Peterson

bookbar children's programming kevin peterson

Children's Programming

Originally from Evanston, Illinois, Kevin has worked just about every job from a multi year stint at Casa Bonita to appearing in a beloved or hated (depending on who you ask and what age you were when you originally saw) Christmas film. In addition to BookBar, Kevin is the program director of Denver Writes, a non-profit dedicated to creating writing spaces within Denver communities for children. An illustrator and playwright, his art appeared on the dearly departed ABC Family drama, Chasing Life, and his written work performed on stages in Colorado and New Mexico.

Becky Lejeune

Office Manager/Consignment

Becky LeJeune is the office manager and local author coordinator, working behind the scenes to organize the consignment program. When she’s not at BookBar, Becky is an associate literary agent and blogger. Which means she reads A LOT. You won’t see her in the store often but when you do, she’s likely browsing for more books to buy for her massive TBR.
