Social Justice Story Hour

We are so excited to host Dr. Vanessa Santiago Schwarz for a very special Social Justice Story Hour on the afternoon of May 13th! Parent and teacher educator Dr. Vanessa Santiago Schwarz will read a few beautiful picture books that share important messages surrounding social justice, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. About our Special Guest: Dr. Vanessa Santiago Schwarz is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the elementary teacher education program at the University of Colorado-Boulder, where she teaches undergraduate courses on Dis/abilites in education, Culturally Sustaining Practices, and Family and Community Engagement. She received her Ph.D. in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity, holds a Master’s of Science in Bilingual and Special Childhood Education, and spent eight years working as a general and special education teacher in New York City public schools. 

Currently, Vanessa works closely with Colorado principals, teachers and instructional leaders to develop culturally sustaining and anti-racist teaching practices. Additionally, Vanessa is a mother to two young children and leads workshops for caregivers who are interested in anti-racist, anti-bias parenting.
