Local Author Happy Hour

Meet local authors, Marilyn Raff, Julie Rasmussen, and Dustin Waite, and get signed copies of books. ½ off any drink on our menu for attendees.

Marilyn Raff has studied horticulture, taken a wide array of gardening classes at local nurseries, and at the Denver Botanic Gardens, and trained as a Master Gardener. For twenty-five years, she owned her own gardening business, and subsequently, for several years, taught rock gardening at Front Range Community College, in addition to teaching various classes at the Denver Botanic Gardens.  Marily has written three garden books, The Intuitive GardenerShrub Roses: Paradise in  Bloom, and Ornamental Grasses for Western Gardens. She then returned to college to study literature and poetry and wrote two poetry books: In The Palm of the Land, and Until Class Ends. A lover of cooking, Marilyn is thrilled to finally come out with a cookbook, published in September 2018 - Nourished: A Memoir of Cooking and the Arts. Julie Rasmussen is a potty-mouthed artificial blonde, former president of a cartoonist’s company and member of Mensa. Sometime in the late 90s, between drinking Zimas and stealing food from the cafeteria, she got a journalism degree and later spent years in the newspaper business. She lives in Northern Colorado with her sons. Hippie Dippy Bulls**t is her true story.

Dustin Waite is currently residing in Denver, Colorado. He earned his BA in Geology and Marine Sciences at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. He began his professional career as a geological consultant in southern California where he remediated contaminated sites and was part of the team to help open Vista Hermosa Park, the first public park in downtown Los Angeles in over one hundred years. Waite then pursued a career in education while working with The Greenway Foundation in Denver, earning the title of Colorado Certified Environmental Educator. He relocated to Maui where he put his passion for teaching and natural history to good use while helping design The Lahaina Heritage Museum. After hiking almost 1,600 miles on the Appalachian Trail, a rare heart condition arose and forced him to spend time back home in Iowa. Upon returning to the trail and completing the final six hundred miles, Waite continued to travel. Waite has spent extended time in Mongolia, Central America, and riding his motorcycle across the United States. He did so while writing the manuscript for External, and ultimately relocated back to Denver.
