At the Inkwell: Summer Love

Michael J. Seidlinger is a Filipino American author of Runaways: A Writer's Dilemma (Future Tense Books, 2021) and other books. He has written for, among others, Wired, Buzzfeed, Thrillist, Goodreads, The Observer, Polygon, The Believer, and Publishers Weekly. He teaches at Portland State University and has led workshops at Catapult, Kettle Pond Writer's Conference, and Sarah Lawrence. Corie Rosen is a fiction writer and poet. Her work has been nominated for the National Book Award, for the Pushcart Prize, and has been a finalist for the Katherine Anne Porter Prize for fiction. She grew up in the greater Los Angeles area and attended UC Berkeley. At Berkeley, she studied with MacArthur Genius and Pulitzer Prize nominee Ishmael Reed, who told her she was one of the most talented young writers he had ever encountered. Her poem “Madonna for the Damned,” a meditation on cultural iconography, has been anthologized multiple times, featured on NPR, and is regularly included in high school and college curricula. Her short fiction has also been anthologized and taught. She is a former member of the faculties at Arizona State University and the University of Colorado. As a professor, she frequently addressed groups that numbered into the hundreds and has given dozens of talks across the United States and Europe. Currently, she is a member of the Lighthouse Writers Workshop and reads fiction and poetry for The North American Review and Salamander Magazine. Her book of poems, Words for Things Left Unsaid, was published by Aldrich Press in 2020 and nominated for the National Book Award.

Jennifer Givhan is a poet, novelist, and transformational coach from the Southwestern desert and the recipient of poetry fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and PEN/Rosenthal Emerging Voices. She holds a Master’s degree from California State University Fullerton and a Master’s in Fine Arts from Warren Wilson College. She is the author of four full-length poetry collections, most recently Rosa’s Einstein (Camino Del Sol Poetry Series), and the novels Trinity Sight and Jubilee (Blackstone Publishing). Her poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction have appeared in The New Republic, The Nation, POETRY, TriQuarterly, The Boston Review, The Rumpus, Salon, and many others. She's received New Ohio Review’s Poetry Prize, Phoebe Journal’s Greg Grummer Poetry Prize, the Pinch Journal Poetry Prize, and Cutthroat’s Joy Harjo Poetry Prize. Gina Tron is the author of six books. Last year, her first book of poetry 'Star 67' was published with Vegetarian Alcoholic Press. It contains a poem that has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and Ploughshares called the book 'an act of resistance.' Her poems have been in Green Mountains Review, Entropy, Tupelo Press, and Meow Meow Pow Pow. As a journalist, she’s contributed to publications including Washington Post, VICE, Daily Beast and Politico. Her second and forthcoming memoir “Suspect,” won the 2020 Tarpaulin Sky book award.

Alex DiFrancesco is a multi-genre writer who has published work in Tin House, The Washington Post, Pacific Standard, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, The New Ohio Review, Brevity and more. In 2019, they published their essay collection Psychopomps (Civil Coping Mechanisms Press) and their novel All City (Seven Stories Press), which was the first finalist for the Ohioana Book Awards by a transgender author. Their short story collection Transmutation (Seven Stories Press) is forthcoming in 2021. They are the recipient of grants and fellowships from PEN America and Sundress Academy for the Arts. They are an assistant editor at Sundress Publications. DiFrancesco is the human companion of a rescue Westie named Roxy Music, Dog of Doom.
