Come join us in celebrating Dow Phumiruk's new book Mela and the Elephant!

About the Author:

Dow Phumiruk loves creating children’s book art and stories. She has been a member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) since 2011. She lives in Lone Tree, Colorado with her husband, daughters, and an assortment of small pets (most notably a dwarf rabbit named Lottie and a cute bearded dragon named Sparkles). She is the illustrator of Maya Lin: Artist-Architect of Light and Lines, by Jeanne Walker Harvey, Counting on Katherine, by Helaine Becker, and Mouse's Christmas Gift, by Mindy Baker. Mela and the Elephant is her author debut!

About the Book:

Mela sets out to explore the river near her village but quickly ends up in trouble when her little boat is swept downstream and into the dense jungle. She encounters a crocodile, a leopard, and some monkeys, and hopes that one of them will help get her back to her village - but they don't. When ultimately an elephant comes along, Mela learns a lesson about kindness. This new fable is told with authentic Thai customs and includes an author's note with more Thai traditions and language.
