CBA - Juvenile Literature and Young Adult Literature

We're hosting the Colorado Book Awards Finalist Reading Series! Come April 22nd from 4:30 to 6 pm to hear from the finalists in Juvenile Literature and Young Adult Literature!

We'll have a Shirley Temple drink specials just for attendees!

About the Nominees:

Juvenile Literature:

Todd Mitchell will read from his juvenile literature novel The Last Panther. Mitchell is the author of a few other books for middle-grade and teen readers, including The Traitor King, The Secret to Lying, and Backwards. Currently, he teaches creative writing in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he lives with his wife and two wily daughters.

Sara Miller and Pat Toole will read from their juvenile literature novel Path of the Thunderbird: A Grand Canyon Adventure. Miller is a fiction and nonfiction writer who penned her own column for a suburban-Denver newspaper for over a decade. She currently is the Development Director for Dinosaur Ridge and lives in Colorado with her husband and two sons. Toole is a former elementary and middle school teacher with a master’s in Education. A member of SCBWI, she lives in Colorado with her husband and travels extensively in search of settings for her stories.

Avi will read from his juvenile literature novel The Player King. He has published more than seventy books. Winner of many awards, including the 2003 Newbery award for Crispin: the Cross of Lead (Hyperion), two Newbery Honors, two Horn Book awards, and an O’Dell award, as well as many children’s choice awards, Avi frequently travels to schools around the country to talk to his readers. Among his most popular books are Crispin: The Cross of LeadThe True Confessions of Charlotte DoyleNothing But the Truth, the Poppy books, Midnight Magic, and The Fighting Ground. Learn more here.

Young Adult Literature:

Len Vlahos will read from his young adult novel Life in a Fishbowl. Vlahos is the author of The Scar Boys, a William C. Morris Award finalist and a #1 Indie Next pick, and Scar Girl, a sequel. Vlahos lives in Denver with his wife and two young sons, where he owns the Tattered Cover Book Store.

Sara Jade Alan will read from her young adult novel A Messy, Beautiful Life. Alan has performed in more than a thousand improvised and scripted shows. When she isn't writing or performing, she teaches writing workshops as a faculty member of Lighthouse Writers Workshop’s Youth Writers Program. Raised in a suburb of Chicago, she now lives in Colorado with her husband and daughter.
