Community

At BookBar giving back to our community is an important part of our day to day.

Northwest Denver Book Exchange

This bilingual community event was co-founded by BookBar and BookBed owner Nicole Sullivan in 2009. This annual event brings community members together to exchange books with one another. Any remaining books are donated to Colorado Coalition for the Homeless and other local nonprofits. Visit Northwest Denver Book Exchange.

Reading Partners

A national education nonprofit dedicated to improving students' reading skills by recruiting and training community volunteers to work one-on-one with students who are reading below grade-level.  BookBar holds book drives for Reading Partners in order to give their students books to take home. Learn more about educational nonprofit Reading Partners.

Denver Writes

Provides young writers in the Denver area with a supportive community and creative opportunities to express themselves through writing. Get to know Denver Writes.

Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI)

BookBar gives back to SCBWI through book sales and a program that connects local authors to local schools.  BookBar donated several hundreds of SCBWI member books to nearly a dozen NW Denver schools in 2016 and 2017

Colorado Humanities

We are pleased to host the Colorado Book Award finalist readings each year and serve as the bookseller for the Colorado Book Awards Ceremony

Colorado Coalition for the Homeless

BookBar is proud to partner with the CCH and serve as a donation drop for books for our homeless population. The CCH distributes donated books to its various satellite programs. The men, women and children at these locations are always happy to have free books. Stories help us all to transcend our surroundings and give us hope for a brighter future. Support Colorado Coalition for the Homeless.

Bienvenidos Food Bank

We also distribute book donations to our Highland neighborhood food bank. Bienvenidos' clients love to pick up a good read with their food. Check out the work Bienvenidos is doing in North Denver.

Little Free Library

The mission of the Little Free Library organization is “To promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide. To build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations.”  We couldn't agree with that mission more. That is why BookBar installed our own Little Free Library on our building. Feel free to come by and leave a book and / or take a book.  Everyone should have a book (or a few hundred) in their lives and they are meant to be shared with either a friend or a stranger. For more information about the organization or to get a Little Free Library of your own, check out their website

Tennyson Berkeley Business Association

We are proud members of TBBA. This is an organization of some of the brightest and most creative small business minds in Denver. Learn more about the members of TBBA.
